Starling House

Named after a family of starlings nesting in one of the columns on the front porch.  This Folk Victorian originally built in 1916 is seeing a new life with its second family calling it home.  Our clients came to us wanting to preserve a large majority of the house but needed to add space for their family of four.  To achieve this, the addition was hyphenated to the existing home at the rear with a two-story addition.  The new volume is clad in cedar shingles and stucco with brick accents; all these materials can be found on the existing home.  Inside the original house a circulation spine is dotted with skylights leading you back to the addition and bringing in much needed light to the center of the home. Off this ‘spine’ you can enter into the laundry room and powder room and one side incorporates a hidden pantry space. The home is now filled with bustling daily activity with children and adults alike coming together as neighbors and friends.
